Welcome to Acclaim Magazine’s Heat of the Week. Here are our favourite new releases from Australia and around the world  this week — Follow our playlist here for updates of the best new music every single Friday.

01. PinkPantheress x Destroy Lonely - Turn Your Phone Off

Worlds collide through this international link up between PinkPantheress and Destroy Lonely on ‘Turn Your Phone Off’. Set to a beat fused with speed garage and drum and bass sonics, PinkPantheress champions the song with her signature sweet, animated vocals, before Destroy Lonely takes to the mic, bringing a new dimension to it with his delivery. The track lives within a world fueled by futurism and nostalgia, made sacred by the two artists who tell its story.

02. J Hus - Militerian ft. Naira Marley

‘Militerian’ is a perfect display of J Hus’ versatility. Throughout the track, he’s switching between quick-hitting bars and dance-inducing melodic passages. Naira Marley makes an appearance here, contrasting Hus’ energetic cadence with his deep-voiced commands. It’s a stand out on J Hus’ long-awaited new album Beautiful and Brutal Yard, which you can stream now.

03. FRIDAY* - Dying In The City

The mystifying FRIDAY* sends us into an inarguable trance on ‘Dying In The City’. Serving up a dish of electronic, indie, and hyperpop elements, it’s undeniable that this Eora-artist can’t be boxed in. It’s organised chaos in all the best ways, and just like the end of the working week, we look forward to more FRIDAY* every single time.

04. Mahalia - In My Bag

After a 4-year album hiatus, Mahalia is back with an album full of heavy hitters, one of them being ‘In My Bag’. Just as the title entails, Mahalia lets us know that when she’s making money moves, there’s nobody and nothing in the world that can take it away from her or stop her. It’s a groovy R&B bop produced by London-based duo, The Elements, and takes us into the mindset Mahalia has had over the course of the past four years. Set as the opener for the project, it hits like an extra shot of coffee. If you ever need some motivation to get out of bed, chuck this one on. I promise.

05. Ferby - Besties

Ferby’s woozy flows on ‘Besties’ are bound to get stuck in your head. The NZ prospect switches between laid-back raps and earworm melodies propelled by some thumping 808s. It’s a catchy banger dedicated to popping out with your crew.

06. Eem Triplin - WASTED TIMES

Eem Triplin’s getting vulnerable on ‘Wasting Times’. It’s a minimalistic track dedicated to lost love, as his rap-sung cadence floats atop some sombre acoustic guitars and understated percussion. It’s a revealing point on his new project, STAY PRETTY, allowing for more insight into this Pennsylvanian up-and-comer.

07. Genesis Owusu - Tied Up!

Opening up and guiding the track with a funky, distorted guitar riff, Genesis Owusu’s ‘Tied Up!’ is a letter to life, in all of its chaos and absurdities. Though the hypnotic chorus makes the track a dancefloor filler, Owusu digs into something deeper through his verses. Speaking on sentiments around remaining vigilant and true to your sense of self when faced with a world shrouded in repression of one’s individuality, the track is a introspective thumper that showcases his philosophical approach to nipping his things in the bud. Dropping as a lead up to his forthcoming album, ‘STRUGGLER’, we’re keen and eager to travel down the rabbit hole with Owusu in due time.

08. Yussef Dayes - Marching Band ft. Masego

Yussef Dayes sets the tempo of a jazzy jam on ‘Marching Band’. His drumming is simultaneously urgent and relaxed as he spirals through percussive flurries alongside some warm basslines and piano chords. Garnishing the atmosphere is some falsetto from Masego, who comes in with so much soul that’ll have you starting a standing ovation in your living room.

09. Oh Boy - LOV333 ft. Raj Mahal, Taj Ralph, Ki Low, Tanssi

This latest track from producer Oh Boy is a pretty posse cut. Raj Mahal starts things off with some poignant raps, flowing atop some jangly guitars. Taj Ralph follows, with his breezy warbles adding to the vibrant atmosphere. The track closes out with layered autotuned melodies, bringing this sun-soaked audio journey to a colossal conclusion.

010. Sahxl - Redo @ Love

Our man Sahxl is in his feels on ‘REDO @ LUV’. The track revolves around giving romance a second try, which the Sydney prospect communicates vehemently in a series of croons. His serenading takes place over some glossy pop-trap production, making this catchy anthem prone to propelling to the top of your playlist.
